HEALTHY CINNAMON ROLLS

Some Tips:

This recipe is used with only unrefined sugars and organic sugars

For the icing, you can make regular icing with 2 TBSP nut milk, 1/4 cup powdered sugar, and 1 TSP vanilla

This recipe uses applesauce as a replacement for butter, but you can do a 1:1 ratio if you with to use butter

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 cup butter - melted (sub coconut oil)
  • 1 1/2 cups nut milk (rice or almond)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (sub sweetener)
  • 1 packet yeast
  • 2 TBSP cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar/organic cane sugar
  • 1/2 cup applesauce (sub room temp butter)
  • 4 1/2 cups flour
  • salt
  • 1 TSP baking powder
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 2 TBSP butter (sub coconut oil)
  • 2 TBSP milk
  • 1 TSP vanilla

DIRECTIONS:

  • Heat up the milk for 1 minute and 30 seconds
  • Combine the milk with the melted butter and brown sugar
  • Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5 minutes. DO NOT STIR IN THE YEAST YET
  • After 5 mins, stir in just 4 cups of flour with a WOODEN SPOON
  • Store in a warm place with a towel over it for 1 hour
  • In another bowl, mix together cinnamon, brown sugar, and butter/applesauce until it is all combined
  • After the dough is finished rising, add in the rest 1/2 cup of flour, 2 pinches of salt, and baking powder
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  • Pour the dough onto the counter and knead until it stops sticking to the surface. You can add more flour as needed
  • Roll out the dough to make a rectangle and spread the mixture all around the dough
  • Carefully roll the dough from the shorter side to the opposite side
  • Cut into slices with a piece of floss to make clean lines
  • Grease a pan and place in a circle to fit all the pieces. Then bake for 30 minutes
  • For the icing, whisk together the cream cheese at room temperature, milk, butter, and vanilla
